Hrothgar Ironpelt (Space Wolves)
Personality
[edit | edit source]Hrothgar Ironpelt is the embodiment of the old Fenrisian warrior myth — boisterous, fearless, and fiercely loyal. He laughs in the face of death, often quoting sagas mid-battle and challenging xenos champions to single combat. Yet beneath the bravado lies a tactical mind sharpened by centuries of war, capable of reading a battlefield like a saga scroll. He respects strength, despises cowardice, and holds a deep reverence for the Allfather and the traditions of the Vlka Fenryka.
Despite his gruff exterior, Hrothgar is a mentor to younger Deathwatch initiates, often sharing tales of Fenris over firelight and mead (or the closest approximation aboard the Watch Fortress). He views his secondment not as exile that some of the other Wolf pack do, but as a sacred hunt — a chance to slay the greatest beasts in the galaxy.
Background
[edit | edit source]Born in the ice-wastes of Asaheim, Hrothgar earned his name by slaying a Fenrisian dire bear with nothing but a broken spear and his bare hands. Inducted into the Space Wolves, he rose through the ranks of Ragnar Blackmane’s Great Company, eventually earning a place in the Wolf Guard after the Siege of Choran's Reach where, after 9 hours, was the sole member of his squad left holding a breach against Ork Meganobz.
Hrothgar favors the Terminator plate, not for its bulk, but for the honor it carries. His weapon of choice is the frost blade “Winterfang”, a master-crafted relic that channels the icy fury of Fenris itself. Paired with a storm bolter, he is a walking tempest of steel and frost.
Missions Prior to Joining the Deathwatch
[edit | edit source]- The Burning of Skarvald: Led a boarding action against a Dark Eldar raiding fleet, slaying a Haemonculus and his grotesque retinue with Winterfang.
- The Howl at Vraxos: Held the line against a Tyranid vanguard while Ragnar led a counter-offensive. Hrothgar’s storm bolter fire was said to “sing like Fenrisian hail.”
- The Trial of the Wyrm: Defeated a Chaos Helbrute corrupted by Tzeentch in single combat, cleaving through warp-infested armour with his frost blade.
Missions Since Joining the Deathwatch
[edit | edit source]- Purge of Hive Kallix: Deployed with Kill Team Malleus to cleanse a Genestealer Cult. Hrothgar’s Terminator armor allowed him to anchor the advance through collapsing corridors and ambushes.
- The Obsidian Rift: Fought alongside Salamanders and Iron Hands to repel a Necron tomb awakening. His frost blade shattered a Cryptek’s staff mid-incantation.
- The Maw of the Void Kraken: Led the breach into a Tyranid bio-ship, carving a path through Warriors to detonate the synaptic core.
