Aelius Virex (Imperius Reavers)

Personality
[edit | edit source]Aelius is quiet, deliberate, and unnervingly precise. He speaks only when necessary, preferring to let his actions carve meaning into the battlefield. His demeanor is cold and analytical, shaped by years of stalking xenos horrors in the ash wastes of Praedis Zeta and beyond. Among his peers, he is known as “The Fang in the Fog”—a reference to his stealthy approach and venom-laced strikes. Though he rarely shows emotion, his loyalty to the Imperium and his Chapter is absolute.
Aelius harbors a deep respect for the art of the kill. He views combat as a science, and Tyranids as the ultimate test of that science. His obsession with toxins and biological warfare stems from his belief that the only way to defeat the Hive Mind is to corrupt its purity. He is a mentor to many Vanguard veterans across Chapters, offering his expertise in anti-Tyranid tactics with clinical precision.
Background
[edit | edit source]Born on the Hive World of Praedis Zeta, Aelius was recruited into the Imperius Reavers during a time of escalating Tyranid incursions. The Reavers, successors of the Ultramarines from the Fourth Founding, are renowned for their xenos-hunting prowess, particularly against Genestealer cults and Hive Fleets. Aelius was inducted into the Chapter’s Vanguard forces, specializing in infiltration and assassination.
He quickly distinguished himself during the Third Tyrannic War, fighting alongside the Ultramarines in the defense of Macragge and surrounding systems. His preference for Phobos-pattern armour allowed him to move unseen through war-torn hives and shattered biospheres, striking down Tyranid synapse creatures with venom-coated blades. His combat style—silent, surgical, and savage—earned him a place among the Chapter’s elite scouts and later a secondment to the Deathwatch.
Battles Before Joining the Deathwatch
[edit | edit source]The Defense of Hive Caldera (Third Tyrannic War)
[edit | edit source]Aelius infiltrated the lower levels of Hive Caldera during a Tyranid siege, eliminating Genestealer hybrids and sabotaging bio-nodes. His dual combat blades, laced with neurotoxins, proved devastating against Lictors and Broodlords. His actions delayed the Tyranid advance long enough for Ultramarine reinforcements to arrive.
The Cleansing of Nyx-Delta
[edit | edit source]On the mining world of Nyx-Delta, Aelius led a Vanguard strike team to purge a hidden Genestealer cult. Operating in total darkness beneath the planet’s crust, he used venomous blades and silent takedowns to dismantle the cult’s leadership. The mission was a textbook example of Reaver infiltration doctrine.
The Siege of Praedis Zeta’s Polis Region
[edit | edit source]When a Genestealer Magus resurfaced in the Polis region of Praedis Zeta, Aelius was tasked with hunting him through the hive’s underbelly. The Magus had begun mutating the population using primitive Tyranid DNA. Aelius tracked and executed the creature in a brutal duel, preventing a second infestation on his homeworld.
