The 26th Founding occurred in 738.M41 and produced only one known Space Marine Chapter: the Mentors, also referred to as the Mentor Legion. This Founding was marked by secrecy and a cautious approach following previous Founding failures.

The Mentors Chapter was created to replace the lost Star Scorpions, who had been designated Chapter number 888 during the 25th Founding. The Star Scorpions were destroyed after their gene-seed proved unstable and they were lost in the Warp during a daemonic attack. Although some of their gene-stock survived, it was deemed unusable by the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Years later, the Mechanicus revisited the idea of reviving Chapter 888, and during the 26th Founding, the Mentors were born. They inherited the Chapter number and colors of the Star Scorpions but were given entirely new gene-seed sourced from Terra’s gene-laboratories. The Mentors are known for being reclusive, suspicious, and highly independent, preferring to operate alone and avoid contact with other Chapters or Imperial authorities. Their activities are often classified, and little is known about their homeworld or exact lineage.
