Whilst nominally classified as an Astartes Chapter, the Deathwatch is not formally divided into separate companies and does not adhere to the Codex Astartes... at least someone sees sense in being tactically flexible!
Known as the Shield that Slays, they are the Chamber Militant of the Ordo Xenos, charged with protecting it in its search of information, containment, and ultimate destruction of all xeno species; however they have seen the benefit of joining our fleet to hunt down the Governor as he has no qualms about utilising xenos tech in his experiments.
Each Watch House is led by a Watch Master, who oversees the tactical deployment of any available forces to suit the mission statement. Because most of the Watch house residents are drawn from many chapters, there is no formal unit structure or unit coherency. Individual Kill-teams can often change their composition from mission to mission as ordered by the deployment orders, or necessitated by skills required to achieve their goals.
The Watch Fortress classifies them as Veteran Kill Team, Kill Team and Line Teams.
- Veteran Kill Teams bring together the elite, and equip them to fulfil very specific missions using kit not typically available to other teams.
- Kill Teams fit into the categories of Terminator, Talonstrike, Fortis, Indomitor or Spectrus where mixed skills are more important than specialised equipment. Kill Teams are more widely used than Line Teams, for tactical flexibility.
- Line Teams align to the Codex standard squad equipment loads.
Larger deployments are also, confusingly, referred to as Kill Teams... I do wish they would use something different. For future reference, we'll refer to those larger scale deployments as Kill Forces instead,
We have yet to deploy with the Deathwatch Kill Teams, but only time will tell.
