Founded in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy by ''Sigismund'', the first High Marshal and Emperor’s Champion, the Black Templars launched a massive crusade to prove their loyalty. Their fortress-monastery is the ''Eternal Crusader'', a Gloriana-class battleship that serves as the heart of their operations. The Chapter is divided into mobile Crusade fleets, each led by a Marshal and composed of fighting companies commanded by Castellans.

The Black Templars are unique among Space Marines for their ''religious fervor'', openly worshipping the Emperor as a god and embracing the Imperial Cult.
